Ar Hyd Yr Nos

Ar Hyd Yr Nos

Quite often my paintings are influenced by the music that I’ve been listening to or, more accurately a song that popped into my head while painting, which I then find and listen to. I love it when that kind of inspiration comes. It’s then that the paintings really flow very easily and have authentic context for me.
This one is named  'Ar Hyd yr Nos' (all through the night) after a tune first published in 1784 although the composer is unknown. The Welsh Ar hyd y Nos lyrics that are most often sung today were written by John Ceiriog Hughes (1832–1887). The most common English lyrics were written by Sir Harold Boulton in 1884 and are not a literal translation.
