Fine Art Prints
our print making process
We hand make all our prints in Wales

All our framed and unframed canvas prints, paper prints, and mini framed prints are handmade in our own workshop by my daughter, Chloe Elliott-Schmid, a professional picture framer and artist - you can see her work at her website here.

We like to produce our own prints to keep the quality as high as possible and maintain colour accuracy, as well as continually assessing our production and making environmentally sensitive changes where possible. We became accredited by the Fine Art Trade Guild in 2013, and all our editions are produced to the Fine Art Guild's strict quality standards.

Our books, colouring books, and calendars are a few exceptions that are not made by us. These are designed by daughter Chloe and myself, and printed and published by local companies.

Creating our own product gives us all the more control of the process so we can accommodate special requests for custom sizes - please ask.

Our Limited Edition Fine Art Printmaking process
-
Chloe takes a high res digital photograph of the artwork in natural light for the most accurate colour capture. Several photographs are taken and then using Photoshop software, she optimises and amalgamates the photographs, with sensitivity to colour matching and capturing the texture on the artwork.
-
A test print of the image is made for approval, and then a large digital file of multiple images is designed, which enables printing with minimal paper waste.
-
For my prints, Chloe uses 8-colour large format Epson printer with UV stable pigment (not dye-based which will fade) ink and 310gsm archival paper or canvas. The editions are lightfast and will not fade, and the paper is heavyweight, with a quality velvet finish, which enhances the richness of the colours. The canvas is textured, to replicate the canvas that I paint on.
-
The prints are finished in archival quality acid-free mounts and either a handmade frame, or compostable cello wrap.

GLAZING
In common with most fine art print producers, including The Royal Academy, we use 3mm continuous cast acrylic to glaze our editions. Highly rated for its optical clarity it ensures your artwork is displayed at its best, and possible damage from sunlight is greatly reduced by 90% UV protection. It's also much safer than glass in your home or workplace and being 100% recyclable, it's good for the environment too.
