I love Brittany and go to paint as often as I can.
The clean sandy beaches, the rocky Atlantic coasts,
the farms, the fields, the flowers and the people, it has my heart.

This year I visited La Vallee des Saints in Brittany and fell even more in love with the area because of the deeper roots of the Celtic connection I came to understand.
I'd always visited the great churches of the area and appreciated the ancient architecture. And I'd always appreciated the Celtic connection - the place I stay is near Lesneven which is twinned with Carmarthen, the nearest large town to where I live in West Wales. The similarities in culture and language are profound.
But what I hadn't appreciated until I visited the Valley of the Saints was just how much of the Breton culture and religion came across the water from Cornwall, Wales and Scotland during the 5th centuries.

I could go on ... and I will in my new You Tube Channel - Creative Living in Wales, a new weekly vlog about my studio, paintings and Celtic connections. Join me.

BUT I digress ... here are some sketches from my recent trip, some will be worked up into full paintings, but most I am happy with as sketches - ink, water, sea air ... what more does a girl need?

They are all unframed, and sent rolled in a tube. Postage is free in the UK, outside the UK please message for a postage quote.

Mobile studio is on the road fuelling the inspiration pot … I feel some paintings coming on …

I'm about to start on an exciting new project (more about this soon)

But before I start fully on the new project I've been looking behind.

This was a series of 4 paintings I painted in 2024 when I received mentoring from David Tress, a respected Pembrokeshire artist who is represented by Messums, a top London gallery.
I admired his loose style - opposite to mine! And he kindly taught me for a few days. Of the four large paintings I made then, inspired by the Pembrokeshire coast, three are now sold, apart from this one. One even went to Italy! This is the last of the bunch. It’s a style I enjoyed challenging myself to work in, whether I will try again - I don’t know. Colour is king at the moment, but I never say never!

Titled ‘Irish Sea’ it’s taken from a sketch I made of Pwll Deri, near Stumble Head, a popular pupping site for seals in Autumn and one of Pembrokeshire’s most exposed areas of coastline. It’s 81cm by 71cm, framed size. Acrylic on heavyweight paper.

What a summer it’s been !
Back to back workshops, shows exhibitions, events…
It has been wonderful. I’ve enjoyed it all especially meeting and talking to such amazing, interesting people. That’s what stays in my mind the most when I think of this summer. Elvis, estate agents, poodle parents, artists, chefs …

What’s next? I’m winding down now to a couple of weeks painting in Brittany. But before that one last thing…

An end of summer collectors event at the studio here in Newcastle Emlyn. Next Sunday 2rdd - I’d love to meet more of you. Talk to more of you find out more about you all. I’ll be providing tea and cake throughout the day and of course all the paintings that are back from the galleries all the prints that have been out on show all back here now in the studio and all going to be available to you, lovely visitors had a really special rate.

My kinda heaven

Here's something we've been keeping under wraps.

(Although the observant amongst you may have noticed the odd reference to this project throughout this year ...)

Way back in March, when the weather was cold and the sun had not been seen for months, daughter Chloe and I sat in her garden having coffee and reminiscing about warm summer mornings spent in Collioure, by the med at the foot hills of the Pyrennes on the south coast of France - drinking coffee and planning lazy days of swimming, eating and painting. My kind of heaven!

This is the photo, in a cold West Wales garden, that kicked off a project that we are now jointly working on and that will culminate in a gallery show next July.

These are two paintings that we have painted together. Sometimes individually, sometimes in the same room, but a joint painting. Two artists one canvas ... it's co-creation at it's best - exciting, challenging, thought-provoking.

We'll be working on more of these throughout the next 12 months - watch this space and head over to Chloe's web site (link in comments below) to see her work, and get an idea of how these two styles will combine.

Curators - As these paintings progress, we will be looking for galleries to work with in Wales and beyond. Contact Chloe or I for an informal chat.

What a gorgeous day and it’s work experience for these two lovlies - the life of an artist - up at 7, get the van ready, drive 90 minutes to take down a show at St Davids, have a walk to the beach there and a swim, cake & hot chocolate, sing in the van on the way back before an afternoon nap (for them.... lighweights 🤣) followed framing, labelling and packing. Tomorrow we do it all again - this time to set up a show at Gallery Gwyn in Aberaeron.

And not a paintbrush in sight all day🤣

Unplanned studio clearout - finding a dog painting from 8 year old me. Near meltdown from work overload saved by LOVE and a walk on the beach.
Old patterns surfacing, seen, assessed and understood. Appreciation of creativity - what a day!

And I didn’t even have a dog then but I sure loved them.

People have been commenting all week about how my paintings make them happy and when I look at them, yes that’s what they are about. People also comment that they all include dogs. Last day at the Guildhall Gallery tomorrow, and I’m surprised these two haven’t found their Forever Homes yet. The first one ‘Resting’ is one of my favourites. I just love the simplicity in the colour and the sentiment! The second one Little Horse - so many people have loved that, so many people have had it in their hands. It’s just waiting for its right person.

And that’s what I love - that’s why I do this - the connection between the painting and the person when it finds the one.

Sometimes it feels like running an animal sanctuary! Trying to match the animal with the new owner😂😂
