You know I said that as part of our summer show, I’d releasing 13 small original paintings over 13 days - well, this one ain’t so small!
It’s a whopping 100 x 80cm

This painting has been on the go since last autumn in my studio.
It is of the cliff path walk between Aberporth and Tresaith.
I hope you can see all the little details that make that walk so wonderful.
Thanks to everybody who said that it needed dolphins - I agree and they are as well as few fish of course because - no fish no dolphins!

I’ve been adding the finishing touches to it this last week, during Chloe and my show at the Guildhall Cardigan - which is on each day until Saturday 12th July.

From the Edge of the Earth – Inspiration from Brittany 🌊

Spending time sketching in Finistère, Brittany again — a place of wild coastlines, ancient stones, and deep resilience. From the scars of history and ecological tragedy, beauty has bloomed here in the most unexpected, tranquil ways.

I’m bringing these impressions back to the studio with me, where they'll inspire a new series of paintings.

Soul soothing, sunny, satisfying. Yet - a place of war and disaster. Occupied during WW2 and in 1978 ecologically devastated by the Amoco Cadiz oil spill. And now - heaven.
Whilst painting here the phrase comes to mind ‘a rising tide floats all boats’. So have faith my friends, find what soothes your soul and look for the light.

Thought for today…

When the energy is there for something really good, but the habit is to block and doubt it. The trick for me is to take a walk gently think about the resistance, and think about the excitement and the energy of the new project, and focus gently on giving prevalence to the excitement of the new project and not the resistance from old habits.

✨ Out in the Wolds, I've been walking with ink and paper — letting the land draw through me.

There's something about standing in the path, not just observing it, that changes the way I see it. This sketch came from that moment. A crossroads. Trusting intuition, letting go of trying to "get it right."

I’m back in the studio now, but the fields are still with me. The wind, the birdsong, the old tracks underfoot — they’re in my heart now.

This new series is growing from that place. Wild. Rooted. Quietly alive.

Yesterday’s work.

There is a very special piece of land for me that’s located in a triangle in the Yorkshire Wolds of about 5 miles x 4 miles x 3 miles.
Several times a year I come here to find the perfect view. Spring is great when you have the rape fields and the hedgerows all in flower. Summer sees the fields ripe with wheat and the autumn colours are spectacular.

It’s a very little known part of the world, and you can drive or walk for an afternoon and hardly see anyone especially on a Wednesday!

So here’s what I did yesterday - filled the inspirational well up with sketches absorbed the colours, sounds, feelings of the place. Today will be more of a studio day when I’ll work these into some paintings. But before I could do that, I had to spend a day absorbing, being porous.
