it’s Raining Again here in West Wales, and it would be easy to think oh no, blooming rain, and feel a little sad about it.

But catching that thought is the thing. And choosing a replacement. Thoughts become actions, and actions become us.

And so in art, I encourage class members to notice and verbally remark upon the colours, lines, passages that light them up, their ‘yeses’ and also to notice their thoughts when the painting doesn’t go as they wish. Our thoughts create our reality - but they are not our reality - we have the opportunity, every moment to define that reality.

@bathartfair - here I am in Bath - a long way from West Wales, but what a treat. It’s so easy to stay at home in the studio and make paintings. But it’s so good to push myself come out and see original Art and the artists that created the Art in real life.
Such an experience to see which art I gravitate to, what attracts me as well as which art I’m not personally attracted to- it really helps define me as an artist and my genre.

It’s also great to buy new pieces for my home and to create the environment that I want to live in.

Last night I was on a call with a group of artists and coaches and the amazing @georginanoeleft and we discussed how sometimes artists can feel that they 'should' be doing a 'proper' job.

I'd previously written a blog post in my studio journal (link in comments)about this and offer this reflection to you:

On a deeper level, art isn’t just about making something beautiful — it’s about lifting the frequency at which we live as human beings.

When we create simply for the joy of it — not for approval, not for productivity, not for outcome — but for the quiet satisfaction it brings us, something shifts. Our energy rises. We feel lighter, more open, more ourselves. And that change doesn’t stay contained. It radiates outward.

Like a lighthouse, that inner joy sends out a beam. It reaches the people around us. It softens a room. It changes conversations. It influences families, communities, and quietly — steadily — the wider world.

This is why I teach painting and creativity. Not because art is decorative or indulgent, but because it genuinely elevates people. When someone reconnects with their creative spark, they become happier, more present, more hopeful. And happier people create happier environments. That ripple continues far beyond the canvas.

So please never believe that art is trivial or a waste of time. The visible, practical, hands-on actions in life matter deeply — of course they do. But some of us are here to make a difference in quieter ways. To shift energy. To illuminate possibility. To show that raising the human spirit is powerful work.

And that work matters more than we often realise.

I won Gold Award "best tourist attraction" in Carmarthenshire - me LOL!!!! How things change.

Looking at this memory, I have some reflections to share. Success means different things to us all. My idea of success has changed radically in the last 7 years, and although I still get a small 'must be in the rat race' niggle occaisionally, I have give myself top marks for successfully stepping back from the 'full on must achieve' paradigm, to a heart-centred in the present way of living🙏

Then ... I felt I had a lot to prove
🔴 I chased every opportunity
🔴 Accepted all commissions and collaborations that were offered
🔴 Employed 8 staff
🔴 Taught at schools and adult classes
🔴 Attended international shows and residencies
🔴 Always looked for the next big project
🔴 and paid a f'ing huge amount in VAT and taxes......

Now
I have nothing I want to prove
🍃 I wait for invitations that excite me
🍃 only accept shows and commissions that feel juicy
🍃 carefully consider offers and collaborations
🍃 say no, thank you, quite often
🍃 feel fully content, with no desire to achieve or prove myself
🍃paint every day, meditate and walk my dog
🍃teach only in small groups, no more than could 'fit around my table'
🍃 have more time, money, and energy for the things that really matter.

And no, I'm not selling anything, but if you're interested in exploring art and creativity as a way of shifting gears to a less 'succstressful' life, then my small workshops maybe for you.❤️

💥The Year of the Fire Horse💥
whoa yeah!!!

This week marks the transition from the Chinese year of the Wood Snake to the Year of the Fire Horse (beginning February 17). An exciting change from quiet, internal introspection to rapid, fiery action, personally and on the world stage.

As a 60-year cycle, the Fire Horse is considered a rare, high-energy, and often tumultuous period that demands movement, independence, and bold decision-making. Bring. It. On💥🙏

More than this, and importantly, whilst this high, fast-moving energy is with us, it's a time appreciating being anchored into our personal strength and focus, grounding and becoming mindful of what supports us. For me, that is mediation, my art practice and connection with like-minded souls.

Throughout this exciting and turbulent time, I'm committed to supporting people develop their art practice as a way of being mindful and centred.

Because without art collectors, there would be no art,
and without art ... well ....

Honestly? A world without art would still function.
We’d have houses but no sense of home.
Language, but no poetry to stretch it.
Facts, but no meaning.
Art is how humans remember who they are.
It’s our emotional archive.
Before we had science, we had cave paintings.
Before psychology, we had myth, ritual, pattern.
Art is the original tool for making sense of being human.

Without it:
Joy would have no echo.
Inner worlds and connections would stay locked inside us.
Art doesn’t decorate life — it integrates.
It translates invisible, internal emotions, intuitions, memories, connections, spirit, into something shared.

Art communicates.
It’s how one soul speaks to another across time.
And quietly, it does something else that we need:
Art slows us down enough to feel.
To notice.
To remember.
To recollect.
To dream.

In a world without art, we'd survive — but we wouldn’t be reflected.
And without reflection, humanity loses its depth.
Which is why art matters more than most people realise.

Paintings are not just pictures.
They shape our inner weather.
They are places to rest our eyes and
regulate our nervous systems.
They give form to something we feel but can’t name.

What do artists do all day?

Well, whatever makes them happy really. Sounds ideal? It is!

For me this morning being happy involved getting up early and reviewing last night‘s paintings, walking my beautiful dog, meditating.
Then planning an exhibition that’s coming up in March with @oriel_cardi_bach, updating my website and now - having coffee and saying hello and good morning to you lovely people💕

Pretty good start of the day I think - being as happy as possible 💕🎉✨✨✨

I adore oil pastels, and when we had a small art shop in Aberteifi, one of the first things I did was stock it with the complete range of Sennelier oil pastels. You can imagine ..... I was like a kid in a sweet shop.

Tomorrow I am going to get the oil pastels out again - it has been about 20 years since I used them... they still work perfectly, that's amazing.

So - yes the new website is taking shape, and the full archive will be available to view 1st February .... I just love a deadline!

I love a challenge - but wasn't expecting this current one to be as absorbing and exciting as it's turning out to be.
I am working on publishing an archive of almost 1000 paintings and a new website... oh geeky joy ... what pleasure is there in a meta data index🤣🤣

In the new website, I am including some of the different studios I’ve worked in. This was one of the most interesting, certainly the coldest.
It’s the upstairs joiners workshop of an old shipbuilding workshop on the banks of the Humber in East Yorkshire.

Hello lovlies - a little introduction and a special welcome if you are new here.

I’m an artist, a business owner, a mentor, and a woman who has rebuilt her life from the inside out.
By choice, I live in rural West Wales, close to the sea and the quiet — two things that taught me how to breathe again.

My path here wasn’t clean or glamorous.
I originally trained in psychology, then spent years working for the Home Office, trying to fit myself into a life that looked respectable but felt entirely wrong in my body.

Eventually, the truth caught up with me.
I became seriously ill.
Three weeks in hospital.
Two years slowly building myself back together... into who I knew to be the real me.

It wasn’t pretty.
But it was honest.
And it showed me what I had been refusing to see:
I was a creative woman forcing myself into a 9–5 box that was never meant for me.

So I let it all go — the managerial role, a good salary, the pension, the identity people understood — and I chose the thing that had been waiting for me all along: creativity.

It was messy, and brave, and the most right thing I have ever done.

Now, I paint from my home studio and gallery, where visitors are welcome by appointment. I spend my days dog walking, loving life, painting, and connecting with other artists.

Alongside my painting, I help other artists grow their skills and businesses, blending my passion for creativity with personal development.
I have had the privilege of women joining my spaces who were talented but self-doubting.
Women who had something inside them they couldn’t quite reach yet.
Women who just needed someone to see them clearly and remind them of what was already there.

I’ve watched them build their creative practices, their businesses, their confidence, their sense of self.

And every time, something in me lights up.

That’s still where I find my purpose.

Here's the thing - as part of my business planning for the coming year I felt very strongly about the idea of the Kitchen Table.
In a time that is at once so super-connected, but also superficially-connected, I crave real connection and community.

I only desire to work this year with small, intimate communities, building strong and meaningful connections.
Hence the Kitchen Table idea - I want to work with groups (whether I'm hosting or part of) of no more than I could fit around my kitchen table - which admittedly is quite big - but you get the idea.

Happy Solstice lovely friends, and thank you for another year of support and friendship.

I’ll devote some thought to a review of the year and planning the next at a later date. But for now enough to rest in the stillness of this beautiful season.

Thank you too for your patience- the observant amongst you will have noted the absence of new daily Advent paintings. Apologies for this as it really is a favourite thing of mine to do to mark this season. I’ve been laid pretty low with flu & bronchitis and have been missing being able to paint even small studies.

A suitable time them for pausing and resting indeed!

I hope you and yours are keeping well and warm, and and bring the light of solstice candles in your house and hearts 🕯️🤍
