Thought for today…

When the energy is there for something really good, but the habit is to block and doubt it. The trick for me is to take a walk gently think about the resistance, and think about the excitement and the energy of the new project, and focus gently on giving prevalence to the excitement of the new project and not the resistance from old habits.

✨ Out in the Wolds, I've been walking with ink and paper — letting the land draw through me.

There's something about standing in the path, not just observing it, that changes the way I see it. This sketch came from that moment. A crossroads. Trusting intuition, letting go of trying to "get it right."

I’m back in the studio now, but the fields are still with me. The wind, the birdsong, the old tracks underfoot — they’re in my heart now.

This new series is growing from that place. Wild. Rooted. Quietly alive.

Yesterday’s work.

There is a very special piece of land for me that’s located in a triangle in the Yorkshire Wolds of about 5 miles x 4 miles x 3 miles.
Several times a year I come here to find the perfect view. Spring is great when you have the rape fields and the hedgerows all in flower. Summer sees the fields ripe with wheat and the autumn colours are spectacular.

It’s a very little known part of the world, and you can drive or walk for an afternoon and hardly see anyone especially on a Wednesday!

So here’s what I did yesterday - filled the inspirational well up with sketches absorbed the colours, sounds, feelings of the place. Today will be more of a studio day when I’ll work these into some paintings. But before I could do that, I had to spend a day absorbing, being porous.

The top bit of the iceberg is the techniques and materials, the practical skills. Easily learnable in a few days.

The bottom part with the Q - the biggest part by far, the the part we need to make us creative, inspired, effective and resourced as artists.

What is it ? it and why the Q?

Quite simply it’s the skills that we learn around self awareness that lead to creative alignment with our true selves.
Without this it really is just paint and paper.

The Q is because this huge resource is accessed by learning how to ask the right questions of ourselves that open doors to understanding:
- How to create and keep confidence in our work.
- How to work creatively with our self criticism and self belief.
- How to find and follow aligned inspiration.

And much, much more. And the beautiful part? As we paint, we create and the right questions naturally arise.
It’s never just paint and paper.

This year, 2025, I'm drawn more than ever back to this beautiful place and have already started work on a new series of paintings celebrating this historic Ceredigion coastal village.

Back in the studio now after I was drawn coastward for a few days….. to familiar places and many happy memories. Sandy toes, a sketchbook, and a soul full of seashore - my happy place, which I look forward to sharing with you in these paintings.

Back in the studio now after I was drawn coastward for a few days….. to familiar places and many happy memories. Sandy toes, a sketchbook, and a soul full of seashore - my happy place, which I look forward to sharing with you in these paintings.

Creativity is necessary because it’s a release valve for the soul. It allows us to process the world, make sense of emotions, and connect with something bigger than our day-to-day concerns.

Even if it doesn’t produce anything "useful" in a conventional sense, it nurtures inner balance, which then ripples outward into everything else — relationships, decisions, energy, even business.

It’s like dreaming while awake — seemingly aimless but essential for integration and evolution. Without creativity, we risk becoming too utilitarian, too boxed in by logic or routine.

Creativity isn’t just play. It’s alignment. A way of coming back to our own rhythm and truth.

"Attending was quite simply the best thing I have done FOR ME in many years. The environment was warm, relaxed and nurturing. Helen's approach was so gentle I felt able to completely 'let go'. I totally embraced her methods and loved the vibrancy of the acrylic paints we used. I worked on a huge canvas and didn't use a paintbrush at any point - just my hands, stamping tools, dripping inks, spraying water, sponges, wet wipes and even some wire wool. It was SO MUCH FUN. I didn't want the workshop to end and when home time came I was absolutely buzzing. I had created a large, vibrant piece of art from my soul, full of energy and electric colours. I felt proud and happy.” Clare
